What you might Expect
A class may unfold in many ways. There is usually a warm up, which may be a short wave or a guided exercise; a teaching section, which might cover all the rhythms, just one or just one aspect of one rhythm; you may be asked to work on your own, with a partner or in a group; and a Wave, the opportunity for you to embody the teaching into your own dance through all 5 rhythms. Guidelines
- Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in and don't mind getting sweaty. We dance in bare feet or dance shoes only. Bring a water bottle.
- Honor your own body and whatever limitations you may have today. Respect your energy level and what is going on for you. If you need to rest, rest.
- Be respectful of others. Be aware and respectful of when someone wants to dance on there own.
- There is nothing to prove here. Do not take risks which might endanger yourself or anyone in the room.
- Silence. Once we enter the dance floor we are in sacred space. This practice is a meditation and an opportunity to leave words behind and express ourselves through movement.
- Presence. There will be a million opportunities for you to become distracted, to leave the room through your mind. When you do get distracted, it is an invitation to come back - to your feet and your dance.
- Keep moving. How you move does not matter...That you move does. Even if you are fatigued and can only sway back and forth - sway. Movement is the key to unlocking that amazing, unique dance that only you can offer the world.
